Also known as "city of parks", Holguín possesses
19 museums, a theater, 27 culture houses, 9 art galleries, and 97
professional groups in the fields of theater, music, dance, and
others. Thus, Holguín ranks among the first provinces of
Cuba regarding culture. In addition, Holguín celebrates every
year the Fiesta de la Cultura Iberoamericana, which scope is providing
an approach of the people of countries sharing similar cultures
and roots.
The Romerías de Mayo is another relevant cultural event taking
place in Holguín. This festivity, sacred and pagan at the
same time, starts with a peregrination to the Loma de la Cruz (hill
of the cross), a mass, and ends with the joyfulness of music and
dance.
